About & Submission Policy

Colophon42 takes its name from the traditional publisher's mark placed at the close of a printed work—a small notice recording the fact and manner of production. In the same spirit, this gazetteer closes a loop: it is a record of where things are, assembled with the care a cartographer brings to a regional atlas. The directory was compiled to serve a simple need: a reliable, browseable index of active web addresses, organised by subject rather than popularity rank or algorithmic score. The 22 sections of the gazetteer correspond to broad domains of human activity—commerce, health, learning, law, travel, and more—with a final Sundry section for addresses that resist neat classification. Entries are admitted on the basis of submission and review. Any operator of an active web address is welcome to submit their site for inclusion; submissions are assessed by the editorial team before the address is added to the catalogue. The process is deliberately straightforward: the gazetteer does not rank, score, or otherwise evaluate the merit of listed sites beyond confirming that they are active and appropriately categorised. The Colophon42 gazetteer is maintained on a rolling basis. Addresses that cease to be reachable are flagged for removal; new submissions are processed in order of receipt. The catalogue currently records 832 approved web addresses, with new entries added as reviews are completed. If you operate a web address that does not yet appear in these pages, the submission form is open at all times. The gazetteer is only as complete as its contributors make it.
